The mercury was below zero,
the sundial leisurely hovered over the wee hours,
sleep graced peaceful in the pristine eyes,
the dawn was still a distance away
The bod desired to rest for a tad long
but the determined heart pushed hard,
for it desires to keep alive
the promise made of self
to be disciplined
and be in command of one’s inner self
And despite the darkness
the extremities
and the surging desire to repose some more,
I put on my running shoes
to embrace the openness
fighting gelid airs
and the bitter cold
I run with a blithe soul
