This poem is inspired by the amazing humanitarian effort shown by an anonymous person in Chicago during the recent cold wave, who put 70 homeless people in a hotel.
Polar vortex clawed in
and the mayhem was brutal,
cold zephyr spreading its sphere
in all directions
Not a soul on the streets
even the animals
took shelter in deep woods
trying hard to abate the extremes
But then there were homeless people
somewhere in Chicago downtown
helpless eyes
expressing the obnoxious feeling
of getting left behind
The Salvation Army gathered them in a tent,
and some samaritan donated them propane heat
the only respite they had
in an otherwise soul-numbing environ
But as luck would have it,
one of the cylinders exploded
and in the name of safety
the fire chief took away their last hope
All doors were caving on them
survival was at utmost danger
and right when all hope was doomed
an anonymous person showed up,
for he booked a hotel for all the despair souls
and proved humanity still exists
in this otherwise ostensible world
