This is for my dear papa. He left us too soon and we dearly miss him. He was a rockstar, did so much for the family without any complaints. Today whatever I am is because of him.

I miss his smile, his carefree guffaws, and everything that he used to do. Writing this ode to him, I had tears in my eyes. May his soul Rest In Peace

Happy Father’s Day to all you beautiful dads

The clouds were rough that day,
bellowing storm cracking thunderstorms
the world was smeared with dark shades of gray,
not a soul was at sight,
sensing the gale
everyone vanished to take shelter
ready to embrace the gale

I remembered how we were caught unguarded,
me my little brother and my dad
on a Bajaj 150
scooting beyond the speed
the two-wheeler could manage
and the downpour came,
the deluge was thick and relentless
and then I saw dad
hurriedly putting the bike on the stand
he draped the lone raincoat on us
and then covered his body over us
to protect us from the beating
on that lonely October night

Then I recalled the day
I had to leave home,
going far away to shape up my future
around the same time,
you left home too
serving for the forces
call of duty
mom and my brothers couldn’t leave
and you had now the burden to feed three homes

I came to know after a long time
how you had taken up cooking on your own
to save money
to make the ends meet,
but never complained once
or told us once
and always carried your impetus smile

You left us too soon
not that I could repay your debt ever
but you never gave us a chance
to take care of you,
to show you how your sacrifices had finally taken shape,
display our love
hold you tight,
maybe the last embrace

I know you are resting in peace
in heaven’s abode
blessing us
and sending us loads of love
every moment every day
