Only Time Would Tell

She,
with a hesitant mind
and wearing reluctance
on her ostensible charm
tiptoed,
crawling few inches at a time
trying to reach for his heart
that she abandoned not too long ago
aspiring to explore some greener pastures
now only to realize
what she deserted
was the only abode she yearned
the only place she could call her home

Little she knew
the path she was retreading back
didnโ€™t exist anymore
and the heart she longed for
now was a ball of coal
destroyed and charred

Would she be able to resurrect the broken soul
Only time would tell

  1. Beautifully written as always, Shantanu. The last lines of the second stanza are very powerful, so poignant. I like the open ending with the possibility of some hope.
