The dangling branches
from the time forgotten oak trees,
The carefree stomping
of some wild boisterous feet,
The boulder that was once
populous with the mischievous crowd,
The afternoon hustle labeled as a
pleasant nuisance of the old town,
All the clamor,
the rumpus uproar,
the utter chaos,
had ceased to exist,
for the kids no more grace
the deserted wild streets.

streets are now empty and no more people sitting or anything
Thanks James. You got the essence correct
Enjoyed this one from beginning to end. ππΌ
Thank you so much Mark πΈ
Sublime! This flowed so well; evoked a variety of feelings, of nostalgia, and of cherishing.
Thank you so much for your kind words Rishu
Welcome, sir.

Wow
Nostalgia!
Perhaps social media to be blamed for taking away kids from the streets!
Majestic writing!
This is so true. How times have changed. I am glad I spent most of childhood playing on the streets, amidst the forests and by the riverside. Children today are completely missing that connection with the nature which is so important. Thanks for writing this, Shantanu. So relevant and so beautifully penned. π€
Spot on
The difference between the past and the present generation is beautifully explainedπππ
Thank you so much Priscilla
Thank you πΈ
Thank you so much for your kind words. I so agree with you. My childhood was outdoor and it pains to see how the new generation confine them to gadgets and indoors
You are too kind Pen. Thank you
This is SO evicative Shantanu. Beautiful. I feel as if I am in those desrted streets where so much once happened. Connected with history. Sad but beautiful. Shantany, you just put the most beautiful Comment on my poem βAs I lie hereβ and it made my day. But once again as I was replying to you suddenly it all dusapoeared again! I donβt know if you can remember what you said and reoeat it could yoy? I would live to reply to you. Such amazing wirds you said to me.
Thanks for relating to my poem. I truly appreciate it. Sure, I will be happy to. I will repost my comment again.
Thank you so much for your kind words
This makes me nostalgic. Most of our childhood was outdoors. Now we are living and breathing around a concrete jungle.
Thankyou so much Shantanu. I dont know if I got the right meaning from your poem or not but it is how it struck me. And I think this is one of YOUR best, too. Lovely poem
Thanks a lot Megha. You said it right.
Thanks a lot Lorraine. It means a lot
We didnt have to go to nature hikes and state parks it was all around us.
Absolutely.
I don’t let the streets here be desserted.I make sure to take them everyday especially in summer coz if we leave them home all they do is hold a iPad or a ps4 controller. Also since its summer vacation I make sure to make them do one activity like sketching, painting, craft, cooking etc.But whatever I do they still are the kids of this generation. Our childhood was so peaceful .We found happiness in the littlest things. To impress kids nowadays is hard tooπ
Wonderful post Shantanu.Nostalgic as it bought back the days when we used to play outside .And also make us think about getting all kids back to childhoodπ
Beautiful Yasmeen. I do the same. I have a basket ball court in the front and a play area in the backyard. The way I control the screen time is very simple 30 mins of video games a day. But my son is in 6th grade he cannot do anything without laptop, so that is hard to avoid. Daughter still is fine. Also, my kids do not watch TV. I have taken the very basic connection. I also do not watch TV not even news. However, I watch movies πthat is hard to take it away π
Thank you for such a lovely post
Haha
As in here we have divided screen times.I jave my time to watch tv.Kids have their hour.My elder one will be going in 9th grade. He is in a totally revolutionary teen days.Kuch bhi bolo bahot gussa aa jata hainπ.I wanna keep him disciplined yet not hurt him.
I know that age. It is coming for me too π
π
Wonderful!β€
Thank you Richa
Yes, it’s really sad. I was born and brought up in Arunachal and I really miss that closeness with the nature that I was lucky enough to have then. We are all so entrapped by technology now in every step of life, that even when we try to get rid of it there seems no escape. That’s not how life was meant to be lived I guess. Thanks for raising this important concern so beautifully through your work, Shantanu. Truly appreciate. π€
Another brilliant poem from a brilliant poet.
You are so kind Ragazza πthank you
AP is such a beautiful place. I am from Assam and visited T2 and just fell in love. I agree with you whole heartedly and thank you for your beautiful comment
Oh really, you’re from Assam! I should have guessed it already from your name. Yes. Arunachal is beautiful. I have lovely memories of my childhood from there. Got to visit Arunachal last year after more than 10 years, and it was so nostalgic. I have an equal affinity for all the places in northeast, including Assam. I still have a lot of friends in Guwahati, Nogaon, Tezpur and other places. Sorry, I get a little overwhelmed when I come across people from that part of the country. Even more glad to know you now. ππ
Totally fine. I am from Jorhat. Still visit the place once a year. Where are y these days
From the very green Arunachal, to the very dry Rajasthan. I am based in Jaipur. π
And you?
Haha nice pink city πI am in the US, New Jersey. My work brings me to India almost every second month.
Ahh… That’s nice! Jaipur is a furnace right now. π
I can imagine. Stay cool. It must be ungodly hour in India. Are you a night owl? π
Very much! π¦
But it’s almost time to sleep now. I need to be at work early tomorrow. π
So I will catch you again soon. You take care. π
Until next…. Ciao! π
Absolutely. Good night and you take care. Ttyl π
